A recent study by the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research reveals alarming levels of toxic chemicals, particularly plasticisers, in common foods. Baby foods such as pureed vegetables, cereals, and microwave-in-a-bag vegetables showed significant contamination, especially when heated. The research tested over 100 food samples and identified more than two dozen toxic additives, including organophosphate esters, known for their health risks, including thyroid cancer and hormone disruption. Some cooking oils were found to have lower levels of plasticisers, indicating variations in contamination depending on food type.
The common foods, especially baby food and microwave-in-a-bag vegetables, are found to contain high levels of toxic plasticisers linked to serious health risks.
Research highlights worrisome levels of toxic additives, particularly in baby food, affecting hormones and linked to diseases like Alzheimer's and various cancers.
