San Juan Salsa Co. has issued a recall for eight of its salsa products due to possible contamination with wood particles. These items, produced between December 19, 2024, and March 17, 2025, may pose health risks if consumed due to the possibility of irritation or toxins. The contamination is linked to cilantro sourced from SubHerb Farms in California. Consumers are urged to check Best Before dates and dispose of affected products which are sold in stores like Costco and Kroger. Despite this, SJS reports no complaints thus far regarding the issue.
SJS also believes its internal manufacturing process eliminates the potential for wood particles to be contained as a result of cilantro being utilized in its products.
Depending on their size and shape, wood particles may irritate or cut the mouth, throat and gut and could contain natural toxins.
