Two Decades of Trans & Queer Beauty and Resistance: Sean Dorsey Dance to Celebrate 20th Anniversary Season April 11-13 in SF - San Francisco Bay Times
Briefly

Sean Dorsey, a prominent figure in the Bay Area dance community, celebrates 20 years of Sean Dorsey Dance with a special retrospective event. The upcoming performance will revisit key works from the past two decades, including pieces inspired by LGBTQI+ histories and experiences. Notable performances include works like Lou, The Missing Generation, and Boys in Trouble, which highlight the ongoing struggles and resilience of trans and queer individuals. Dorsey's commitment to showcasing these narratives is a powerful response to societal attempts to undermine queer histories.
"It's powerful to be performing these dances at a time when so many forces are trying to erase our history and our very existence," said Dorsey.
"I created that piece in response to the horrific attacks that were happening under that administration-and so it's both intense and cathartic to bring some of this back now," Dorsey told the San Francisco Bay Times.
These dances are declarations of the worth and beauty of trans and LGBTQI+ communities, showing the importance of keeping our history alive by bringing it to the stage.
While there are many gay, lesbian, bi, and queer dancers in the U.S., there are far fewer transgender choreographers, making Dorsey's work even more significant.
