Trailblazing lesbian journalist to be honoured with rainbow plaque
Briefly

Jackie Forster, a trailblazing journalist and lesbian activist, will be honored with a rainbow plaque in London on February 26. Known for her role in the LGBTQ+ community since the 1960s, she was an early member of the Minorities Research Group and wrote for the first lesbian-focused magazine, Arena Three. Forster was also involved in key LGBTQ+ initiatives, including the Campaign for Homosexual Equality and participating in the first London Pride parade. The plaque's unveiling is part of the Rainbow Plaques scheme, supported by Mayor Sadiq Khan, to celebrate LGBTQ+ contributions throughout London.
Forster's contributions to LGBTQ+ activism, journalism, and visibility were pivotal, as noted by Gillian Hanscombe: "If she had served any cause other than lesbian rights, she'd have been festooned with honours."
Sadiq Khan emphasized the importance of recognizing LGBTQ+ history, stating, "It is fitting that we remember Jackie's significant role in promoting and championing LGBTQIA+ rights."
