Students speak against transphobic campus event scheduled for 3 days after murder of trans student - LGBTQ Nation
"An anti-trans activist scheduled to speak at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Washington says the event has been postponed following student backlash. Criticism of the event - originally scheduled for today on the university's Seattle campus - comes just after the murder of a transgender student, who was found stabbed to death at an off-campus apartment complex Sunday night."
"Seattle police are still searching for a suspect, described as a Black male with a beard and a slim build, believed to be between 5'6" and 5'8" tall and between the ages of 25 and 30, according to local reports. Police have yet to identify the victim, and it is still unclear whether the stabbing was a targeted attack."
""TP is very open about their transphobia," one user wrote. "A tragedy occurred yesterday to one of our fellow peers and our community is grieving. it'd be downright despicable to not cancel this event." "A trans student was murdered last night, please cancel this event," another comment reads."
""How incredibly disgusting and inappropriate to bring your transphobic rhetoric to a school that is grieving the violent murder of a transgender student that happened less than 24 hours ago," a third user wrote. "You are not welcome here. Do not come to my school.""
