The San Francisco International Arts Festival (April 25 - May 11) is set to showcase a rich array of LGBTQ+ performances and installations, emphasizing the theme of resistance against xenophobia and anti-LGBTQ+ issues. The festival, now relocated to the Mission district, includes works from international artists such as Ukraine's Grotowski Institute and Japan's Ayane Nakagawa. Executive director Andrew Wood stresses the festival's commitment to politically engaged art, responding to the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community worldwide, and emphasizing the importance of building faith in the future through art.
It is our job to give our audiences a platform to explore these important issues and to uplift voices that often get silenced in contemporary society.
By default, we are usually prepared for the moment no matter what it brings, highlighting our ongoing focus on politically progressive and engaged work.
