Nancy Mace calls transgender student a transphobic slur at USC event
Briefly

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace faced criticism for using a dehumanizing slur towards transgender individuals during a speech at the University of South Carolina. When student Harley Hicks confronted her about the derogatory term, Mace laughed and repeated the slur, dismissing Hicks' request for an apology. The incident garnered attention on social media, with Hicks emphasizing the bravery it took to appear at the event as a trans person. This is not the first occurrence of Mace's use of the slur, highlighting concerns over her repeated derogatory language towards the LGBTQ+ community.
Hicks told the South Carolina Daily Gazette that the idea that she would attack Mace is laughable, as showing up to the event at all as a trans person was one of the bravest things she had ever done.
Mace was scheduled to give a speech at the event Monday hosted by USC's chapter of Turning Point USA, a right-wing student organization designated as an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Mace cut her off to use the slur again. "Is tr*nny really derogatory?" Mace asked, grinning.
Hicks said in the video, "I would like for you to apologize because it is derogatory, and second of all-" but before she could continue, Mace cut her off.
