A documentary directed by Jennifer M. Kroot about the Hunky Jesus Contest and the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is premiering at the BFI Flare London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival as the opening night film. The film interweaves coverage of the 2023 annual free festival in San Francisco's Dolores Park with historical chronicles of the Sisters' activism during the AIDS crisis and major direct actions, including the 1987 exorcism of Pope John Paul II. The documentary features interviews with Sister Roma, founding member Grand Mother Vish-Knew, and George S. Takei. It portrays the drag nuns battling against religious conservatism and human rights erosion through blasphemous cabaret performances and community celebration.
