GGBA was the first business league of its kind at that time, and became the model for the wealth of later associations that organized across the country.
The mayor's presence at the GGBA event marked the community's coming out and acknowledged the LGBTQ+ community as a valid political and social block, establishing GGBA as its leadership.
GGBA leaders proved that LGBTQ+ activists were not on the fringe, but part of the mainstream society, present in all walks of life, neighborhoods, trades, and professions.
