Gay MP explains why we still need Pride in powerful parliamentary speech
Briefly

In a compelling speech, Chris Bryant, the Labour MP for Rhondda and Ogmore, emphasized the ongoing necessity of Pride Month during a debate at the House of Commons. He articulated that Pride is still essential as children face bullying and rejection from families due to their sexual orientation. Drawing on historical instances of discrimination, he explained that the need for Pride persists today in the face of worldwide oppression, highlighting incidents of violence and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community, including actions taken by governments like Hungary's recent ban on LGBTQ+ marches.
We need it now when kids are bullied at school, when families throw their children out. We have always needed Pride.
We needed it when people lazily assumed that a short haircut meant you were a lesbian, or a lisp meant you were gay.
Now the minister for data protection, Bryant went on to say: 'We need it now, when kids are still bullied because they're camp or butch, when families still throw their LGBT children out of the home.'
Bryant referred to continued oppression in Hungary, where right-wing prime minister Viktor Orbán has banned LGBTQ+ marches, showcasing the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ+ rights.
