After a 13-year anticipation, LAIKA Studios has unveiled Mitch's boyfriend, Luca, from the animated film ParaNorman, in honor of Pride Month. Mitch, voiced by Casey Affleck, made history as the first openly gay character in mainstream animation when he teased his boyfriend back in 2012. The studio's Principal Character Designer and Development Art Director emphasized the importance of embracing diverse stories and the meaningful reveal of the boyfriend's character. The introduction of Luca highlights both the significance of LGBTQ+ representation in media and ParaNorman's original themes of acceptance and understanding.
