The 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards in Beverly Hills celebrated entertainers, films, and TV shows that represent the LGBTQ community positively and inclusively. Notable figures like Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Wayne Brady highlighted the event’s theme of togetherness and authenticity. Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD's president, underscored the importance of storytelling in changing perceptions. The event sought to send a powerful message of acceptance amidst current political challenges. The awards will be available for streaming on Hulu, emphasizing ongoing support for LGBTQ representation in media.
We've been seeing a lot of separation, a lot of disparity, and I want people to see what togetherness looks like, what showing up for each other looks like, and what camaraderie looks like.
To just be a part of the community, to be able to show up, to give love to everybody here, who is showing up as their authentic self.
We celebrate our stories and our stories change hearts and minds, and they move people.
This is what's called doing the right thing. I don't think that anybody has to be given a thanks for being an ally.
