10 Years of marriage equality: Meet the Advocate editors who were there
Briefly

On June 26, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. This momentous decision transformed the lives of countless couples and marked a significant victory for the LGBTQ+ community. Reflecting on the journey to this ruling, queer media outlets like The Advocate played a crucial role in documenting the fight for marriage equality. A special panel discussion, featuring key editors involved in the coverage of marriage equality, will commemorate this milestone and explore the evolving landscape of LGBTQ+ rights since that historic day.
Those of us in queer media, like The Advocate's editors who covered incremental steps toward marriage since civil unions were still a pipe dream in the '90s, strategized in the lead-up to that momentous day.
Though I was the editor in chief of our company's sapphic site, SheWired.com, at the time, I contributed to the stories that day and bore witness to my colleagues' extraordinary work.
In other images, queer couples appear thoughtful, considering the winding road that led to the decision in Obergefell v. Hodges.
To honor national marriage equality's 10th anniversary, I've assembled a panel of editors who worked tirelessly on marriage equality coverage.
