The devastating impacts of the ongoing war in Ukraine are illustrated through Yulia Moroz's harrowing experience during an airstrike on the Mariupol theater, where she sought refuge with her parents. On March 16, 2022, the theater was struck, resulting in chaos and destruction that separated families and led to widespread suffering among the local population. Moroz recalls the horrific moment of the explosion and the immediate aftermath, emphasizing how such violence has forcibly displaced millions of Ukrainians, leaving them to navigate a life reshaped by loss and trauma.
"I will never forget the sound of missiles and planes," she says, recounting the horrifying moment during the airstrike that forever changed her life and that of her family.
The suffering she shares with more than 10 million Ukrainians who, after three years of the Russian offensive, had to leave everything, their homes, to save their lives.
Barbarism followed them, sweeping away the few belongings and separating paths in an agony that she still recounts with her gaze lost in suffering.
Moroz, now in Vinnytsia, recalls that at 9:30 a.m., when the explosion rang out, people were screaming and chaos filled the air.
