U.S. votes against a U.N. resolution urging Russia's withdrawal from Ukraine
Briefly

The U.N. General Assembly rejected a U.S.-backed resolution seeking to end the war in Ukraine without addressing Russian aggression. Instead, it adopted a Ukrainian resolution, backed mainly by Europe, demanding an immediate Russian withdrawal. This vote, seen as a gauge of global consensus, revealed a decrease in support for Ukraine, differing from previous years where over 140 nations condemned Russia. Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister underscored Ukraine's right to self-defense, calling for global solidarity in upholding the U.N. Charter against aggression on its sovereignty.
As we mark three years of this devastation Russia's full invasion against Ukraine we call on all nations to stand firm and to take the side of the Charter, the side of humanity and the side of just and lasting peace, peace through strength.
The vote on the amended U.S. resolution was 93-8 with 73 abstentions, with Ukraine voting 'yes,' the U.S. abstaining and Russia voting 'no.'
