Officials from Kyiv and Moscow are meeting in Istanbul to discuss peace negotiations to end a three-year conflict. Following their initial talks last month, where they agreed on a prisoner swap, both sides are now preparing to address further peace terms. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy demands a full ceasefire and emphasizes direct discussions with President Putin. The Russian side has not pre-disclosed its demands, indicating they will present a memorandum of peace terms during the upcoming meeting.
The Russian delegation will be led by Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky, who led similar talks in 2022. The Ukrainian team will be lead by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
During the first round of talks in Istanbul last month, both parties agreed on a large-scale prisoner swap and spoke about their visions of a peace deal.
