President Trump expressed optimism about engaging with Putin following unsuccessful peace talks in Istanbul regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which failed to produce any significant progress. Meanwhile, leaders in Europe condemned Russia's demands, highlighting the ongoing challenges in narrowing differences over cease-fire and territorial issues, despite a newly agreed prisoner exchange deal.
"We have to get together," he said at the end of a four-day tour of the Middle East.
"I think we'll make a deal with Putin...[I] will use leverage on Putin if I have to," he said.
"The Russian position is clearly unacceptable, and not for the first time," British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a joint statement.
"We are now closely aligning and coordinating our responses and will continue to do so."
