Admiral Sir Tony Radakin stated that Russia has incurred unprecedented casualties in Ukraine, averaging 1,500 dead or injured daily in October, totalling approximately 700,000 losses since the conflict began.
Sir Tony highlighted the extraordinary price the Russian people are paying due to Putin's invasion, emphasizing that the casualties were for 'tiny increments of land,' underlining the disproportionate cost of the conflict.
Although Russia is achieving tactical territorial gains, the chief of defence staff noted that over 40% of Russia's public expenditure is now devoted to defence and security, representing a significant drain on the country.
While there are suggestions that Ukraine may have to cede territory to end the conflict, Sir Tony reinforced that Western allies remain steadfast in their support for Ukraine 'for as long as it takes'.
