Russia makes gains against Ukraine in Kursk as Trump envoy arrives in Moscow
Briefly

Russian President Vladimir Putin, amidst discussions on a proposed U.S.-brokered ceasefire in Ukraine, showcased military strength in a camouflage uniform while announcing significant advances against Ukrainian forces. Reports revealed the retaking of Sudzha, a key town in the Kursk region, bolstering Moscow's position in potential negotiations. Gen. Oleksandr Syrsky of Ukraine refuted claims of a complete Russian victory, asserting ongoing combat and significant Ukrainian resistance. The Kremlin's willingness to discuss the ceasefire contrasts with previous rejections, hinting at tougher conditions in future negotiations as the geopolitical stakes intensify.
As of Wednesday evening, Ukrainian troops had fought off eight Russian assaults. 'Trying to achieve political goals at all costs, the enemy has already suffered and continues to suffer significant losses in the Kursk region,' Syrsky said on Telegram.
With the Russian Defense Ministry announcing Thursday the retaking of Sudzha - the largest town under Ukrainian control - Moscow looks set to strip Kyiv of a territorial bargaining chip that it has hoped to use in peace talks.
