A recent meeting in Riyadh between U.S. and Russian representatives aimed to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine but attracted attention due to its secrecy. Spanning over 12 hours, the talks did not allow for the release of details until the following day. The focus for the U.S. appeared to be on establishing a truce, while Russia prioritized reviving the Black Sea grain export agreement, which shifted the negotiation dynamics. Amid ongoing tensions, high casualties were reported from continued attacks in Ukraine, emphasizing the urgent need for progress in discussions.
The issue of the Black Sea Initiative and all aspects related to the renewal of this initiative is on the agenda today.
We've never been closer, a breath away, from a full ceasefire, and then a discussion about an enduring peace. It's doable. Humanity has done it in the past, we can do it again.
There has to be new ideas, where this dynamic has to stop.
The laconicism regarding the progress of the talks also extended to Washington.
