Vladimir Putin visited a military command post in Kursk to address Russian forces and highlight their success in regaining territories from Ukraine. This visit followed a U.S. delegation's discussions with Ukrainian officials about a proposed 30-day cease-fire, which Putin previously showed disinterest in. Dressed in military attire, he commended the troops and called for the permanent seizure of reclaimed territory, branding captured Ukrainian soldiers as terrorists under Russian law. The recent military operations reportedly resulted in the capture of over 400 Ukrainian troops, further complicating peace negotiations.
Dressed in a green camouflage uniform, Mr. Putin sat at a desk with maps spread out in front of him, according to photos released by the Kremlin.
Mr. Putin praised the Russian military formations that had taken back much of the territory captured by Ukraine in the Kursk region.
General Gerasimov said more than 400 Ukrainian troops had been captured in the operations.
People on the territory of the Kursk region committing crimes here against the civilian population...are terrorists, Mr. Putin said.
