The Alcatraz Battalion, under the 93rd Kholodny Yar Mechanized Brigade, comprises ex-convicts who have opted for military service over prison time in a bid to defend Ukraine and rehabilitate their images. Established following a new law to address personnel shortages, this unique battalion now includes numerous former prisoners who are reportedly more motivated than typical recruits.
