This week, Mali announced it was severing ties with Ukraine, accusing Kyiv of complicity in a deadly ambush in the northern Kidal region which led to numerous deaths, including Malian soldiers and Russian Wagner fighters.
The diplomatic conflict escalated after Ukraine's military spy agency suggested that the rebels behind the attack had insider knowledge, sparking concerns about the Russia-Ukraine conflict extending into Africa.
