Foundations laid for tribunal to try Putin for Ukraine invasion, EU says
Briefly

International lawyers have made significant advancements towards establishing a tribunal to prosecute Russian leaders for the crime of aggression during the invasion of Ukraine. The EU declared this a major step forward in holding those responsible, including Vladimir Putin, accountable for their actions. Initially proposed by Ukraine soon after the invasion began, discussions had been hampered by concerns about immunity for Russian officials. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy expressed his willingness to negotiate with Putin to achieve peace, acknowledging the need to end the violence affecting civilians.
There wouldn't be any killings on the ground. There wouldn't be any attacks on civilian infrastructure, civilians, rapes.
Setting up a tribunal was about putting pressure on Putin and the regime to really stop this war.
If that is the only set-up in which we can bring peace to the citizens of Ukraine... we will go for this set-up.
The tribunal's creation was initially proposed by Ukraine just days after the full-scale invasion.
