Recent violent clashes along the Syrian coast have resulted in the deaths of over 200 individuals, primarily men linked to the regime of ex-President Bashar Assad. These events, which began in response to an attempted detainment by government forces, represent the most significant unrest since Assad's ousting by insurgent factions including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. Among the deceased are government troops and loyalists, highlighting the intense backlash and brutal tactics employed by the new regime against perceived enemies amid a protracted civil war that has devastated the country for over a decade.
Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen TV also reported the attacks on the three villages, saying that more than 30 men were killed in the village of Mukhtariyeh alone.
The ongoing clashes between the two sides have marked the worst violence since Assad's government was toppled in early December by insurgent groups led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
They killed every man they encountered," said observatory chief Rami Abdurrahman.
In addition to around 140 killed in apparent revenge attacks in the villages, the dead include at least 50 members of Syria's government forces and 45 fighters loyal to Assad.
