Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed in an interview that shortly after the Russian invasion in 2022, there were multiple assassination attempts on his life. He stated that these attempts stemmed from Moscow's pressure on Ukrainian leadership to accept unfavorable peace terms. Notably, during these attempts, some individuals were killed within the Presidential office. In March 2022 alone, at least three assassination plots were reported, including involvement from Chechen soldiers who were ultimately shot after Ukrainian officials received intelligence from the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia. A recent plot was foiled in May 2024, implicating Ukrainian officials in leaking information to Russia.
There were people who wanted to kill (me), there were gunshots, and more. Some people were killed here, inside the Presidential Office, others were defending us.
Moscow was pressuring the leadership in Kyiv to accept unacceptable peace conditions, which led to multiple assassination attempts.
