With a surge in the final 250 meters, Hassan sprinted away from the world record holder, toughing out a shove from another athlete, to win the gold medal in the Olympic marathon.
Hassan expressed that running the two previous races made every step during the marathon a struggle, falling behind momentarily before regaining her composure to never be broken by the lead pack.
