""I've never heard of anybody running any of the train lines. So I was like, you know what? Let's get this f---ing going," Richards said. "I looked at the map... and I was like, man, this is gonna be one hell of a feat.""
""When you come from such a city with such a great magnitude, how could you not hold some type of pride?""
""Running is easy, life is hard," Richards repeatedly declared."
Thai Richards, a 35-year-old Brooklyn model and seasoned ultramarathoner, ran alongside every New York City subway line end-to-end. He began in fall 2023 with the A train, nearly 34 miles from 207th Street to the Rockaways, and followed with the F train about 27 miles to Coney Island. He completed lines roughly monthly and finished the final leg in pouring rain, running 23 miles along the 4 train from Woodlawn to Crown Heights. He mapped all 25 subway lines plus the Staten Island Railway on foot. He documented runs on social media, stopped regularly for beer and updates, and said the runs connected him to the city's history and pride.
