On Friday morning, the New York City marathon hub in Central Park was hurriedly evacuated after a suspicious device was found just 200 meters from the finish line.
Authorities confirmed the suspicious object, initially believed to be a grenade, was located at West Drive and West 67th Street just as runners prepared for the event.
The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit and bomb squad were dispatched to the scene, swiftly assessing the device which was deemed inert and removed twenty minutes later.
The alarming discovery disrupted the marathon preparations, coinciding with a significant weekend where approximately 50,000 participants planned to run the iconic race.
