Marin hike: An easy jaunt through San Geronimo Valley
Briefly

Roy's Redwoods Preserve, initially a ranch, transformed into a hippie commune in the 1960s, and later became a filming site for the Star Wars spinoff 'Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure'. Over the years, it has developed into a nature preserve, maintaining its historical and ecological roots.
The newly opened boardwalk trail at Roy's Redwoods Preserve was unfortunately closed due to storm damage during my visit. However, the Roy's Redwood Loop Trail remained accessible, providing hikers with a scenic, varied experience despite its moderate difficulty.
The Roy's Redwood Loop Trail spans 2.4 miles, winding through beautiful grasslands and redwood forests, offering an easy hike without much elevation change, making it suitable for families and casual hikers.
To reach Roy's Redwood Preserve, simply follow Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and turn onto Nicasio Valley Road. The trailhead can be found just 0.4 miles north, with ample parking provided alongside a porta-potty.
