Houston marathon runner turns grief into action
Briefly

Nyria Gallardo ran the Aramco Houston half marathon while pregnant with her son Matthew, who was diagnosed with leukemia at age four but lost his battle in May 2023.
After Matthew was born, he joined his mother on runs, participating in 5Ks as he grew up. His energetic spirit is something Gallardo cherishes.
Running serves as a therapeutic outlet for Gallardo, who honors her son through each mile she runs, emphasizing that it's a personal coping mechanism.
Through their nonprofit, Miles 4 Matthew, Gallardo aims to alleviate the financial burdens faced by families of children battling cancer, making their journey a little easier.
