The Boston Athletic Association has updated its qualifying times for the Marathon, requiring most runners to run five minutes faster than before to qualify for 2026.
Jack Fleming, the BAA's president, noted that the adjustment reflects the depth of participation and the increasing speed at which athletes are running, with a record number of qualifying applications submitted.
Men aged 18-34 must now qualify by completing a marathon in 2 hours, 55 minutes, while women and nonbinary individuals must finish in 3:25.
The qualifying standards for older competitors (80+) remain unchanged, with men needing to finish in 4:50 and women/nonbinary competitors in 5:20.
