A woman-owned running store prepares for Sunday's SF Marathon
Briefly

Running Wylder, a boutique running store in Noe Valley founded by Katie Douglas, hosts weekly runs called "Slow Jam Sundays" for community engagement. Douglas aims to break down barriers in running, making the sport accessible for everyone. The store also promotes major local events like The San Francisco Marathon. After six years in retail, Douglas decided to create a store that curates existing running brands rather than starting a new apparel line. Running Wylder officially opened to the public in October 2024.
Katie Douglas stated, "It's all about being able to meet people where they are, making this sport that I think is so intimidating to so many people not intimidating, and making it feel accessible."
Douglas explained her transition from retail to opening Running Wylder by saying, "I like to learn new things, and if I'm not learning and growing, I get really bored really fast."
Douglas initially considered creating her own running apparel brand but shifted focus to curating existing brands, noting, "there's really no reason for me to start a running brand, because there's so many amazing ones out there."
