"No, those bits take forever. Yeah, I could have done a bit better, but not much better, because it's sort of impossible. Hall reflects on the mental and spiritual recovery from the Barkley Marathons, acknowledging that while physical recovery is swift, the psychological toll of the notoriously difficult race persists long after the physical demands subside."
Damian Hall, a prominent British ultrarunner, attempted the Barkley Marathons for the third time in 2026 but did not finish, failing to complete all pages on his third of five possible laps. Despite physical recovery two and a half weeks later, Hall acknowledges the mental and spiritual toll of the race. Hall is recognized for numerous achievements including representing Great Britain at the 2016 Trail World Championships, placing fifth at the 2018 UTMB, and coaching 2024 Barkley finisher Jasmin Paris. Beyond racing, he is an author, charity co-founder of Into Ultra, and climate activist. Hall co-founded The Green Runners in 2022 with Dan Lawson, Darren Evans, and others.
