Zendaya has reportedly joined other stars in Sydney Sweeney criticism
"The Daily Mail reported Tuesday that the Oakland-reared Zendaya is refusing to do press with Sweeney for the Spring 2026 release of Season 3 of Euphoria, the HBO teen drama in which they co-star. While the two women grew up together on the set of Euphoria, and were once good friends, Zendaya is upset by Sweeney's reported political views, which include being a registered Republican and becoming the darling of Donald Trump's MAGA supporters, the Daily Mail said."
"Controversy over Sweeney's ad, which was originally released in the summer, erupted again over the past week and was said to be a factor in the box-office failure of her new sports biopic, Christy. The film about famed female boxer Christy Martin earned just $1.3 million this past weekend after being released on more than 2,000 screens. It also was supposed to put the 28-year-old star into contention for an Academy Award nomination."
Zendaya is refusing to do press with Sydney Sweeney for Euphoria Season 3 because of Sweeney's controversial American Eagle jeans ad and reported political views. The ad used the slogan 'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,' which critics interpreted as playing on 'great genes' and promoting eugenics and racial superiority. Sweeney is a registered Republican and has been embraced by MAGA supporters, including praise from Donald Trump. The controversy resurfaced after Sweeney's comments in a GQ interview. The backlash has been linked to the poor box-office performance of Sweeney's biopic Christy, which earned $1.3 million on over 2,000 screens.
