Retiring Sen. Thom Tillis criticized Senate hopeful Ken Paxton after President Donald Trump endorsed him ahead of a Texas primary runoff. Tillis accused CNN anchor Jake Tapper of understating Paxton’s ethical problems and used a harsh analogy to argue that describing Paxton as “ethically-challenged” is inadequate. Tillis characterized Paxton as an “empty suit” who would not serve the country in Congress. He contrasted Paxton with Sen. John Cornyn, praising Cornyn’s positions on the Second Amendment, limited government, and “America first” priorities. Paxton has faced multiple scandals involving alleged bribery, fraud, and other misconduct. Trump called Paxton a “MAGA Warrior” and gave him a “Complete and Total Endorsement,” making him a prohibitive favorite in the runoff.
"He added, Ken Paxton has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next United States Senator from the Great State of Texas. The retiring Tillis, who has repeatedly criticized by Trump as a RINO, was asked by Tapper whether he and several of his other departing colleagues now feel uninhibited as they conclude their terms. Is there going to be something of a you only live once, YOLO' caucus of Republicans on their way out the door that President Trump has helped pressure and instigate? Tapper asked."
