The Hungarian Model
Briefly

Viktor Orbán, favored by MAGA conservatives, presides over a Hungary that, despite superficial prosperity in Budapest, faces significant decline. Once a wealthy Central European nation, Hungary has become one of the poorest in the EU, with plummeting industrial production, climbing unemployment, and a shrinking population. The national education system scores poorly, and young people are reluctant to start families amid economic despair and corruption. While tourists may perceive a vibrant city, the realities of corruption and stagnation remain stark, contrasting sharply with the idealization by some foreign political allies.
Flashy hotels and upmarket restaurants now dominate the center of Budapest, a city once better known for its shabby facades. New monuments have sprung up in the center of town too.
Hungary is now one of the poorest countries, and possibly the poorest, in the European Union. Industrial production is falling year-over-year.
Unemployment is creeping upward. Despite the ruling party's loud talk about traditional values, the population is shrinking.
Even the Index of Economic Freedom puts Hungary at the bottom of the EU in its rankings of government integrity.
