Germany's BfV has labeled the AfD as a 'confirmed right-wing extremist' party, with other German political parties largely avoiding collaboration. Across Europe, similar right-wing factions like Geert Wilders' PVV in the Netherlands push for stringent migration policies. Wilders recently mandated stricter asylum protocols, leading to the collapse of his coalition. In Poland, the far-right PiS faced defeat in elections, suggesting a fluctuating political landscape influenced by rising right-wing sentiments and a push against established norms in various countries.
"I proposed a plan to close the borders for asylum seekers, to send them away, to shut asylum shelters. I demanded coalition partners sign up to that, which they didn't," Wilders told reporters.
"I signed up for the strictest asylum policies, not for the demise of the Netherlands." Wilders highlights the conflict within his coalition over migration policies.
Wilders is in complete control of his party, of which he is the sole registered member; even deputies and ministers are officially only supporters of the PVV.
The BfV has classified the AfD as 'confirmed right-wing extremist,' reflecting wider trends in Europe regarding the rise of right-wing populism and extremism.
