End the Aid Charade
Briefly

President Trump's Inauguration Day executive orders aimed to reshape U.S. foreign assistance and align the State Department with an America First foreign policy. This included a controversial 90-day pause on foreign development aid, allowing time for evaluation of current programs by the Office of Management and Budget. However, the execution was complicated by legal challenges and confusion within the administration, despite assurances from officials that the orders would remain effective. These initiatives reflect broader congressional efforts among Republican lawmakers to prioritize American taxpayer interests in foreign aid decisions.
As soon as practicable, the Secretary of State shall issue guidance bringing the Department of State's policies, programs, personnel, and operations in line with an America First foreign policy.
This past October, Florida's Republican Rep. Greg Steube introduced the Securing Taxpayer Assistance during Natural Disasters Act, further reflecting the administration's priorities.
