Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey is advocating for a full return of county employees to the office, highlighting that around 35% currently telework. This amounts to roughly 2,000 employees still working remotely nearly three years post-COVID-19. Ramsey plans to make a motion during the upcoming commissioners' meeting to transition all employees back, claiming that those who work in his precinct demonstrate stronger efficiency and commitment. He emphasizes that remote work leads to waste, urging a shift similar to federal guidelines requiring government workers to return to physical workplaces.
Commissioner Ramsey's goal is to transition Harris County employees back to the office, deeming remote work inefficient and a potential waste of taxpayer resources.
"Hopefully this will get us on a path to get our employees back to work," Ramsey expressed, aiming for full office returns similar to federal policies.
"There's not a single person out of 400 that are working from home," he emphasized about his team's reliability and commitment to in-office work.
"This is all in the interest of waste," Ramsay noted, arguing that productivity declines when employees telework and justifies the need for their return.
