Part-time jobs offering remote work and flexible hours remain in demand despite fewer Americans starting side hustles. The top industries for remote, part-time roles are education and training; medical and health; and project management. Part-time roles enable upskilling and career exploration without committing to full-time positions. Money motivates many workers: 61% of workers report having side jobs to supplement primary income. An analysis of over 60,000 companies' job listings from January through July identified roles requiring under 30–35 hours per week and allowing work from anywhere with an internet connection. Mental health, project management, and administrative roles grew 27% year over year. The rise of telehealth expanded remote therapy and nursing opportunities.
According to a recent FlexJobs survey, the top three industries offering remote, part-time jobs are education and training; medical and health; and project management. Taking on a part-time role is a great way to upskill and explore your career options, says FlexJobs career expert Toni Frana. "If you want to build skills, or if you're interested in trying something new, a part-time job can really give you the opportunity to try that without fully committing to a full-time role," she says.
Money is another major motivator for workers seeking part-time gigs: according to a FlexJobs report from March, 61% of workers say that they have side jobs to supplement their primary income. "Overall, there are still many opportunities for part-time remote work for people who are looking for that, which is great," Frana says. FlexJobs analyzed job listings from over 60,000 companies in their database between January and July to find roles that offer part-time, remote work.
