Microsoft is set to retire Skype on May 5th, prompting users to transition to Microsoft Teams, which will replace Skype's functionality for consumers. Users can migrate their data and contacts to Teams, avoiding account creation, or choose to export their information instead. Microsoft emphasizes user choice in this transition, ensuring that message history and group chats are retained. A 60-day period has been allocated for users to make this decision, during which interoperability between Teams and Skype will be maintained to ease communication.
Skype will be retired on May 5th, and existing users will need to export their data or migrate to Teams.
Skype users will be in control, they'll have the choice... to migrate their conversation history and their contacts out and move on if they want.
If they do want to come to Teams then the first-run is pretty instantaneous because we've already done the work on the backend to restore their contacts, message history, and call logs.
The transition to Microsoft Teams will keep Skype group chats intact...
