Before President Trump rescinded federal telework policies, IRS employees enjoyed a flexible telework arrangement, allowing up to eight days per pay period. Concerns were raised regarding performance and service delivery, but an arbitrator rejected limiting telework days. Critics, including Senator Joni Ernst, highlighted the impact of taxpayer funding on the IRS union negotiations, questioning the appropriateness of such generous policies. The situation reflects a larger debate over the balance between remote work flexibility and accountability in federal agencies.
To hold telework solely responsible for such issues is inappropriate. Given the need for supervisors to assess the portability of an individual employee's work, I am not convinced there should be an arbitrary six-day cap.
While the American people are working hard, the tax collectors are trying to hardly work. It is infuriating that our tax dollars are being spent on this cushy telework arrangement.
