Stefani Robinson, known for her work on offbeat FX series like 'Atlanta' and 'Fargo,' is now exploring hangout comedy in her new show 'Adults.' The series focuses on Gen Z friends navigating their lives together, contrasting her previous high-concept works. In her words, hangout comedies foster a cozy connection with audiences, allowing viewers to bond with characters on a deeper level. Robinson encourages young creatives to pursue work that resonates personally rather than for an audience, emphasizing the authenticity in artistic expression.
I wish more young people knew you don't need to be writing or doing things for anybody else. To me, the most compelling artistic work is the stuff that makes that individual person feel alive.
So many people are like, 'Wait, you're working on a hangout comedy about a group of friends? That so different than the stuff you normally do,' It's true, the shows that I've been lucky enough to work on have been really high concept or weird.
