"The Green Mountain State had the most Google searches per 100,000 residents using terms like "how to buy a house," "when to buy a house," and "buy a new house," according to the study from Rugs Direct, an online marketplace for area-rug designs. Factoring in the local population size, the company found Vermont boasted more than 173 home-related searches per 100,000 residents each month."
""With the volatility of the housing market, many people are understandably looking to buy a home in states that offer a better quality of life and affordability, such as lower property taxes or incentives for first-time buyers," Sharon Gautschi, Rugs Direct's chief merchandising officer, said in a statement shared with Travel + Leisure."
"Gautschi pointed to Vermont's state-run programs as a draw, like the Vermont Housing Finance Agency (VHFA), which provides affordable mortgage options and down payment assistance."
""This support is especially important," she said, "as many areas have seen home prices increase significantly in recent years, making some first-time buyers reluctant to buy property.""
Vermont registered the most Google searches per 100,000 residents for home-buying queries, exceeding 173 searches each month for phrases like "how to buy a house" and "when to buy a house." Vermont's population is just over 640,000, making it the second-least populated state and 43rd by area. State-run programs such as the Vermont Housing Finance Agency offer affordable mortgage options and down payment assistance, supporting first-time buyers. Wyoming placed second with just over 168 searches per 100,000 residents and a population of about 576,000, noted for skiing and dark-sky opportunities.
