She fell in love with traditional Japanese homes during a high school trip. At 24, she bought one in the countryside.
Briefly

Coline Aguirre's journey towards owning a traditional Japanese farmhouse began during a high school exchange program in Japan. A decade ago, she discovered her love for traditional houses while staying with a host family in Kanagawa. After returning to France as a freelance photographer, she noted the disparity in real estate prices between France and rural Japan. Inspired by low prices of properties in Japan and having a preference for older houses, Aguirre initiated her search for a 'kominka' to accommodate a photo studio and fulfill her dream.
"When I discovered the real estate market in Japan and noticed the really low prices, it got me thinking about the possibilities of owning property there."
"In France, a countryside home could easily set me back by 200,000 euros, while some houses in rural Japan can go for as low as $500."
