The Los Gatos Town Council unanimously approved exterior modifications and a conditional use permit for Restoration Hardware at 50 University Ave., following planning commission approval. The project will homogenize the mismatched exteriors of Building E, formerly occupied by Steamers and The Gap. Members of the Historic Preservation Committee opposed the change, citing a lack of personality and excessive material variety in the proposed facade. Supporters, including business representatives and the Chamber CEO, said RH could anchor Old Town and attract visitors. The mayor raised concerns about sustainability if RH later leaves; applicants indicated plans to remain.
