"Miami Beach spokesperson Melissa Berthier said the ads were "coordinated directly by the mayor" and that "no city resources or funds were used in their production or placement.""
Digital billboards in New York's Times Square displayed a Miami Beach lifeguard stand with the message encouraging New Yorkers to visit and featuring Mayor Steven Meiner's name. The ads did not include the city logo. Meiner posted images on social media and stated that no taxpayer funds were used for the billboard. Miami Beach officials said the ads were coordinated directly by the mayor and that no city resources or funds were used in production or placement. Real estate developer Russell Galbut paid for the campaign and said he proposed the idea after a New York mayoral race outcome.
