Alexander Nathanson and Josette Chang bought a Midtown East co-op after marrying in 2018 to secure Manhattan living and avoid rising rent. The couple paid off their mortgage in September 2024, leaving only the co-op maintenance fee as a housing expense for the past year and a half. Chang left her finance job and began early retirement in 2024, and Nathanson reduced his hospital hours to work part time as an obesity-medicine physician. As of February 2026 they live comfortably on Nathanson's part-time salary and have investments available if needed. Early high incomes, minimal student debt, and aggressive saving enabled their financial flexibility.
