Man arrested for death threats to Spain's Morata
Briefly

Following a penalty miss in the UEFA Nations League final, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Málaga for making online death threats against Spain's captain, Álvaro Morata, and his family. Morata's wife highlighted the harsh online trolling they faced after Spain's defeat. The suspect initially claimed his account was hacked, but inconsistencies in his statement led police to investigate and ultimately confirm his guilt. Morata, expressing his disappointment in his performance, also hinted at possible doubts regarding his future with the national team after the incident.
"The inconsistencies in the complainant's statement, who was seeking an alibi to cover up the fact that he was the author of the comments, as well as other checks carried out by cyber agents, ended up incriminating the suspect, who admitted to the facts."
"It's possible I won't be back in September [for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers]," the former Chelsea and Atlético Madrid forward said after the game.
